Abstract 文献概要

　慢性閉塞性肺疾患（特に喘息）を合併する高眼圧症あるいは緑内障患者に対するbetax-olol点眼液の安全性を検討する目的で3ヵ月間のオープン試験を実施し，次の成績を得た。

　1）試験期間中，0.5％betaxolol点眼液1日2回点眼で有意に眼圧は下降した。

　2）0.5％betaxololの点眼で試験期間中，眼局所に対する副作用はみられなかった。

　3）慢性閉塞性肺疾患を有する患者への0.5％betaxolol点眼液の長期投与で呼吸器機能の低下や臨床所見の悪化は認められず，見るべき副作用はなかった。

　4）これらの結果は，慢性閉塞性肺疾患を合併する高眼圧症あるいは緑内障患者を対象として米国および諸外国で行われた0.5％betaxololの呼吸器に対する安全性試験の結果とも良く一致した。

　以上より，0.5％betaxolol点眼液は慢性閉塞性肺疾患を合併する緑内障患者および高眼圧症患者の眼圧下降に有用であり，全身的副作用のない安全な薬剤であると思われた。

We evaluated the safety and effect of 0.5% beta-xolol ophthalmic solution in 28 patients with chronic open angle glaucoma or ocular hyperten-sion associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease including asthma. We documented, besides routine ophthalmological features, forced expir-atory volume and forced vital capacity as spir-ometric parameters. These examinations were per-formed before, 2,4 and 12 weeks of therapy with instillation of the drug twice daily. A total of 24patients completed the three-month trial period after discarding 1 unsuitable patient during trial one and other dropouts.

No significant changes were observed in spiro-metric parameters during the 3-month test period. Mean intraocular pressure was 21.7 mmHg as baseline and 18.3 mmHg at 12 weeks of therapy. No changes were observed in visual acuity, ocular signs or symptoms. The findings indicated that 0.5% betaxolol ophthalmic solution was safe and effec-tive in this patient population.
