緒　言

　近年，抗生物質，制癌剤，Steroid剤などの強力な化学療法の発達および放射線療法などの治療法の進歩に伴い，従来非病原性あるいは，弱毒菌といわれてきた常在性細菌によつて惹起されるOpportunistic infection^1）がclose upされてきている。眼科領域においても，抵抗力の弱い新生児，乳児，あるいは老人などにこういつた細菌による疾患がおこりうることも十分考えられる。そこで著者らは，このようなOpportunistic patho-genと思われる細菌が眼科疾患において，どのように分布し，更に，これらが病因になりうるかどうかについても検討を加えることを試みた。今回はまず，結膜炎を中心とした疾患から細菌の分離同定を行ない，多数の分離をみたS．epidcrmidisについて，その薬剤感受性をはじめとして更に詳しい検索を行なつた。

We performed a clinical study concerned with isolation of pathogenetic organisms and their sen-sitivity tests in 240 patients with external eye in-fections and in 64 newborn infants as controls.

Among the 302 strains isolated from the 240 infected cases, Staphylococcus epidermidis was the most frequent organism (104 cases, 34.4%). Sensitivity tests showed cephazolin and gentamy-cin to be the most effective agents.

Serological reactions of 32 strains of St. epi-dermidis from the infected group and 31 strains from the control group were investigated using the serological typing method with serum-soft agar technique.
