緒言
眼部帯状疱疹は三叉神経第一枝：第二枝支配領域に発生する疾患で，その原因としては，1920年Wilhelm Gruterがヘルペスから採取した材料の家兎角膜内移植に成功して以来，ヘルペスヴィールスによるものであるとされ，その後の諸学者の動物実験により，神経侵襲性を有する一種のヴィールスによる伝染性疾患であることが一般に認められている。
外傷・感冒・中毒その他の全身疾患に続発し，或いは何等考えられる原因なしに発熱・頭痛が前馳し，或いは突然に一定神経の走行に沿い皮膚に水疱を生じ有痛性の知覚鈍麻・淋巴腺腫脹をおこし，2〜3週間で色素沈着・瘢痕を貽して治癒するものである。
Iritis and episcleritis of right eye occured almost at the same time with the appearance upon the skin of papuls due to dextral herpes zoster ophthalmicus. The iritis disappeared quickly, but episcleritis did not show any improvement for long time.
In that while, small superficial infiltration appeared on the part of the cornea near the focus of sclera.
The biopsy of the conjunctiva overlying the focus of sclera revealed only slight chronic inflammation, but did not show any ulceration or abscess.
