およそ緑内障治療に際しては，眼局所に対する減圧手術，或いは縮瞳剤等の薬物療法による末梢性眼圧調整能改善のみで満足すべきではなく，更に一歩進んで中枢性眼圧調整能の正常化をもはかるべきではなかろうか。
先に，大橋教授はクロルプロマジン等による大脳皮質遮断が正常者及び緑内障患者で眼圧下降的に作用し，更にクロルプロマジン，オプロマジン，メプロバメート，レセルピン等の中枢諸部遮断作用を有する一連の各種トランキライザーを臨床上緑内障治療に応用して，従来の縮瞳剤，ダイアモツクス及び各種手術とも，よくこれらが協同的に作用して有効であることを報告（眼治療必携・病態生理学大系・日眼62巻6号等）されたが，今回は更に新たに加えた多少の臨床実験例を追加報告することにした。
From the fact, that the experimental provocation of ocular tension elevation due to the jugular compression test or the head lowering test is suppressed by the chlorpromazine blocking in the brain cortex, Professor Ohashi stated recently that, the cause of glaucoma should be related mainly to the systematic functional disorder on the peripheral regulatory ability in the cycle between the uvea and midbrain as to the ocular tension influenced by the tension elevating factor produced from the brain cortex.
