I．緒言

　先に吾が眼科学教室が，トラコーマ集団治療モデル地区として選定した岡山県笠岡市神島外浦地区に引続き，その南方約1kmの所にある白石島の全住民を対象とし昭和32年4月25，26，27日検診，次いで6月中旬より約3カ月間に亘り集団治療を実施した結果を報告したい。

　今回の検診はトラコーマ委員会案の新診断基準に従つて行い，診断基準と治癒判定えの妥当性をも併せ検べようとしたものであつて，今後新診断基準の実施或はその改善に当り，いささかでも益する所があればと思うものである。

2359 inhabitants in Shiraishijima, Kasaoka city—a model area of trachoma mass treatment—were examined. The rate of consulted persons was 56,51% and the rate of infection was 28,96%. Further the mass treatment with 1% Terramycin ointmeut was given them for 3 months since June 15th, 1957 and progress of healing was observed every month. Follicles disappeared rapidly while proliferation of the papille hardly changed. Cases consulted more than 60 times within three months showed good recovery, and treatments more than 30 times seemed to be necessary for the mass treatment.
