Studies on mass treatment of trachoma:Report 2 Relapse and recurrence of mass-Treated trachoma

I．緒言

　第1報に於てト治療法とその成績につき若干の問題点に触れたが，本報に於ては屡々問題になる再発・再燃につきその実態を調査した。

　最近の多数のト治療成績は良好であり，更にその遠隔成績に於ても治癒率は高率であるとの報告も尠くない。しかし，著者の特に農村に於ける成績は必ずしも之を肯定し得るものでなく，寧ろ否定的な成績がある。即ち多くの集団治療校に於ては，治療終了後，3ケ月位は未治癒者の治癒に至る傾向が認められるが，此の頃より再発・再燃者が多くなり，6ケ月以後になると或る場合には治療前と差異を認め難い程，此等の症例が増加する。

Such reaggravations of trachoma after mass-treatment is a grave problem attendant thereupon. Some comments relevant to the problem are summarized hereunder.

1. In the schools in rural districts where trachoma is highly prevalent, the decrease of trachoma pationts is never large : in higher year-classes, 4/5 of the trachomatous children are cases of relapses or of incomplete cure, only 1/5 of them being new patients. The frequency of recurrence or relapse is also high among them.
