I．緒言

　涙道の機能は古来議論されている所である。近時長嶋氏の研究によれば，閉瞼時涙嚢は拡張し，吸引的に働くことを述べている。私は，鼻涙管口検査により管口内の液体は瞬目運動と一致して運動すること，又強い閉瞼に際し，液体は吸引されることもあるし，流出することもあるのを見た。此の様な現象を解明する目的で，ビニール管を涙点より鼻涙管に挿入して涙嚢の機能を検査し，興味ある結果を得たので報告すると共にビニール管挿入術を併せて報告する。

The author examined the function of lacrimal sac and duct by way of inserting vinyl tube and observing its fluctuation. As a rule at the time of lid closure there occurs some negative pressure in the lacrimal sac which was exactly reflected in the fluid fluctuation within the vinyl tube. The author treated 32 cases of chronic dacryocystitis and obstruction with vinyl tubing and obtained satisfactory results in 17 causes. At present as we have no ideal method to cure the obstruction of lacrimal duct, the vinyl tubing should be recomme-nded as a most effective and simple method taking the place of old routine method of bougie probing.
