We performed simultaneous vitreous and cataract surgery in 193 eyes of 139 patients. All the eyes received single-piece acrylic intraocular lens. Surgery was performed for proliferative diabetic retinopathy, branch retinal vein occlusion, macular hole,or retinal detachment. Patients were followed up for 8.7±6.2 weeks after surgery. Intraocular lens(IOL)was fixated in the bag in 192 eyes and in the sulcus in 1 eye. There was no problem regarding the state of IOL fixation during the follow-up. Postoperative inflammation was similar to that after conventional IOLs. No case needed posterior capsulotomy for after cataract. Single-piece acrylic IOL can be inserted through a small incision while retaining advantages of conventional IOLs. It proved to be safe when used in simultaneous vitreous and cataract surgery in the present series.
