　「嗜癖モデル」の限界を踏まえ，病的ギャンブリングに対する「欲動モデル」を考案した。これはギャンブルコントロール障害を「ギャンブリングに対して複数の欲望(名誉欲，現実逃避欲，金銭欲など)の充足を期待したことによる戦略の破綻」と考えたモデルであり，適切な欲望充足法の探索が主たる初期介入である。そしてこのモデルに基づき介入した19例に関してその特徴と介入後3か月間の転帰を報告した。この介入法は羞恥心や否認などの回復阻害因子を生じさせることなく，回復動機を高めるものであった。また介入時の断ギャンブル動機の強弱と転帰との関連性はみられなかった。以上を踏まえて治療戦略を提案した。

　The existing addiction model has a number of limitations. Thus, in the present paper, a drive model to treat pathological gambling is introduced. In this model, gambling impulse control disorder is believed to result from one's faulty belief that gambling will fulfill various desires (i.e., desires for fame, money, and escapism). Therefore, in the main early-stage intervention, clients are encouraged to explore alternative methods of fulfilling desires. This paper discusses the characteristics of 19 cases in which drive model-based interventions were employed. Such intervention methods function to heighten the client's motivations for recovery without generating any restricting rehabilitation factors, such as feelings of shame and denial. Furthermore, this model is believed to have high accessibility and continuity, since clients are not pressured to stop gambling. In addition, this paper outlines the drive model-based medical strategy for the treatment of pathological gambling.
