The objective of this study was to develop a short version of the first domestic gambling disorder scale, the Pachinko-Pachislot Playing Disorder Scale (PPDS). Considering the item-total correlations of the subscales and the difficulty of endorsement for each item, a small number of items were extracted from the full scale to yield 3 candidate item-groups (3-, 4-, and 6-item scales). Next, a comparative examination of their reliability and validity was conducted, and the 6-item scale was selected. Then, to evaluate the performance of the 6-item scale, its reliability and validity were compared with those of the full scale. The results indicated that the short version could serve as a replacement for the full scale only in total points. We hope that our country's preventative measures against gambling disorder will progress by applying this short version along with the full scale in a variety of situations.
