緒言

　生体の肺組織量を実測することは勿論不可能であるが，もしこの量が再現性を有する何らかの方法によって推測されうるならば，それは臨床診断特に肺線維症・肺気腫などの診断ならびにその進行程度の判定に有意義であろうと思われる。これについて，1959年Cander and Forster^1）はN₂OあるいはC₂H₂を用いたbreath holding methodで，頻回の操作により異なった呼吸停止時間における肺胞気の濃度を測定して，肺組織量（Vt）を推測する下記の理論式を報告した。

A new partial rebreathing method for deter-mination of pulmonary parenchymal tissue volume (Vt) is reported. The apparatus is composed, as shown in figure 1, of two-bags-in-box system and 5 way cock with 25 ml of dead space. Gas concentration passing through a mouth piece is analysed by respiratory mass spectrometer and is continuously recorded.

As the preparation for exermination, the large bag is filled by the gas mixture which include 4% He, 10% N₂O and 86% air, and then the small bag is emptied perfectly. As breath holding method, the gas mixture is fully inspired from the large bag.
