I．　INTRODUCTION

　The gas exchange which is the principal function of the lung is achieved through the following process, i. e. ventilation, gas distri—bution, diffusion and pulmonary circulation.

　Therefore, the measurement of the intra—pulmonary gas distribution is very important method not only as a method to detect the cause of the impairement of the gas exchange but also to find the efficiency of alveolar ventilation.
