INTRODUCTION
The so-called "emptying rate，"6） which is considered to express the nitrogen concentra—tion of alveolar air after 7 minutes inhala—tion of pure O2， has been used as an indicator to detect the impaired intra—pulmonary distribution of inspired gas．
