Minute ventilation, respiration rate, tidalvolume and minute oxygen uptake werecontinuously rneasured on 10 normal subjectsduring exercise and recovery period, usingKnipPing’s ergometry, step-up-method andthe treadmill-method, and the interrelation—ship among those three exercise methods.was studied.
1) High correlation coefficiency was foundamong minute ventiIation, oxygen uptake atthe steady-state and grade of exercise, andthey increased linearly proportionally with theincrease of exercise.
2) Convertible equations were obtainedamong those three different exercise methods. 3) When an exercise was extremely in—creased it took more time to get at thesteady state and the oxygen debt increased.
4) Normal ventilatory equivalent was ob—tained during the exercise using the legs butit increased markedly during exercise usingthe arm. That is, a patient is more hyper—ventilated, when using arm than usjng thelegs.
