I． INTRODUCTION

The remarkable progress of thoracic sur—gery and anesthesia has required a precise measuring of cardio-pulmonary function. The theory and the method of Riley et al, ^27）28） in parallel with clinical applications of cardiac catheterization, has brought an epoch—making progress to physiology of the lung. Now, a variety of pulmonary function tests have been in clinical practice.

Granting that some of these tests are highly progressed, they are only helpfull to see a single phase of pulmonary function and are not sufficient for a comprehensive evaluation of pulmonary function.
