要旨　側方発育型腫瘍（laterally spreading tumor ; LST）とは，工藤らが提唱した最大径10mm以上の表層拡大型大腸腫瘍の総称である．“LST”は表面平滑な非顆粒型（non-granular type ; LST-NG）と表面顆粒結節状の顆粒型（granular type ; LST-G）に亜分類され，さらにLST-NGは平坦隆起型（flat elevated type）と偽陥凹型（pseudodepressed type）に，LST-Gは顆粒均一型（homogeneous type）と結節混在型（nodular mixed type）に細分類される．発育形態分類としての“LST”の概念は，腫瘍の質的・量的診断や悪性度評価，治療法選択を行ううえで重要である．

　The term‘LST' was originally proposed by Kudo for the tumors which extend laterally larger than 10mm in size, including those not granular in shape. Recently, the definition of LST has been accepted not only in Japan but also in Western countries. LST are classified into two types according to their morphology, granular type（LST-G）and non-granular type（LST-NG）. Each type has two subtypes. The former consists of a‘homogenous type' and a‘nodular mixed type', while the latter consists of a‘flat elevated type' and a‘pseudodepressed type'. The recognition and development of LST was established through several reports concerning their clinicopathological features. Also, it is clinically important to distinguish the macroscopic type by the classification of its development and progression.
