【Abstract】

The deltoid muscle of the upper arm is used as a place for muscle injection. However, an axillary nerve, a posterior circumflex humeral artery, a thoracoacromial artery, deep brachial artery and the radial nerve are distributed in the depths of the deltoid muscle, and it must taken into consideration that damages may be caused to these. This study focused on contents about nerves in the deltoid muscle, and examined the contents of references in fundamental nursing technique texts published between 1990 and 2000, and considered these together with anatomical knowledge. It was discovered that there were no concrete reasons given for its selection other than it is used generally. Explanations about the distribution of nervous run or/and blood vessels, and were vague, these was especially little explanation about the axillary nerve, which affects nerve damage in the deltoid muscle. Although the standard injection point is expressed as three fingerbreadths below the acrominon process, this is not suitable. Science injection requires special technique, accurate anatomical knowledge is required in addition to nursing science technique for "injection."
