Abstract

 Purpose: The purpose of this study was to clarify the parent's satisfaction with care of children in a children's ward for surgical medical examination, and to examine factors which influence their satisfaction.

 Methods: We prepared a questionnaire covering nursing care and factors related to parent's satisfaction, and asked 300 parents of children who were in a children's ward. 160 parents completed the questionnaire for a recovery rate of 53%. 113 parents provided valid data, and we analyzed these with SPSS. Findings;

 1. Items with a satisfaction rate of more than 60% were meals, play, symptoms・treatment, mental care, responsiveness. In particular, symptoms・treatment received a higher satisfaction rating than child rearing.

 2. Items with a satisfaction rate less than 60% were excretion and cleanliness, treatment environment, informed consent. In the free comment section, requests for treatment environment responsiveness informed consent, symtoms, play, excretion, cleanliness were most common, in that order food.

 3. In the background of parent's whose satisfaction was low were young age of children and parents, and admittance, a long stays in hospital.
