Aims: To examine the factors related to Civic Pride (CP) scale to obtain suggestions for nursing focusing on cultural values of people living in rural mountainous communities.

Methods: The sample comprised 2,427 participants aged 19 years and above from Shiiba Village, Miyazaki Prefecture. We conducted an anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey. We collected data on Civic Pride scale, demographic characteristics, participate in community activities, social network and awareness of local education, and we used t test and multiple regression for analysis.

Results: Valid responses were obtained from 890 subjects (valid response rate, 36.7%). As a result of multiple regression analysis, CP scale score was significantly correlated with mutual aid, active participation in community activities and local education for children (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: These factors associated with CP reflect the cultural values of the people living there. And these elements can construct a health care system that is highly compatible with the local community, so CP is expected to be useful information when doing the health assessment for area population.
