Abstract

Adult nursing covers a wide range of field, and its teaching contents tend to become quite extensive. Nevertheless, there have been hardly any study made to propose the essential teaching contents of adult nursing.

The purpose of this study has been to define the structure of adult nursing, and then to select the essential teaching contents of adult nursing from the viewpoint of nursing in its uniqueness.

As we showed in the previous study we proposed a model structure of the teaching contents of adult nursing with the items of the divisions and subdivisions for the purpose of the operation of the study.

In this study the more detailed teaching contents under each subdivision have been defined, referring at the same time to the topics and diseases suggested to be taught. The study has been developed mainly based on the following considerations.

1. The study of adult nursing should be developed based on the study of fundamentals of nursing.

2. No references were made to any particular theories so that this will be left to the disposition of teachers.

3. All the diseases suggested in the contents are intended to be taught under the items that characterize adult nursing.

The divisions of the model structure of the teaching contents of adult nursing consists of: Developmental stages of adults and their characteristics; Fundamentals of adult nursing; Nursing operative patients; Nursing patients with chronic diseases; Rehabilitation and nursing; Nursing cancer patients; Nursing geriatric patients; Mental health and nursing; Nursing patients with sensory disturbances; Special areas in nursing; community health nursing; Occupational health nursing.
