Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safe and effective ambulation schedule for the elderly patients after surgery.

Sixteen patients with gastro-intestinal diseases aged from 40 to 72 years who were ambulated on the 1st postoperative day were investigated about dynamics of circulation, subjective and objective signs, etc.

Systolic blood pressure and pulse rates changed considerably in the patients younger than 59 and older than 60 years respectively.

Electrocardiogram showed abnormal ST-T waves in some cases transiently.

Although the patients complained of pains, sweatings and turned pale frequently, muscle strength of their legs were maintained strong enough to get early ambulation.
