The purpose of this study was to clarify the mood disorders of both aphasic and non-aphasic stroke patients in group occupational therapy (GOT) conducted in a convalescent rehabilitation ward (CRW) for a duration of 6 years and 3 months. Using the Japan Stroke Scale (Depression and Emotional Disturbance Scale) prepared by the Japan Stroke Society, 20 aphasic and 69 non-aphasic patients participated in the study. The data differed significantly in each group between pre- and post-periods, while significant differences were not found between the groups in each period. The results suggest that GOT may be of some efficacy for stroke patients with aphasia in CRW.
