The aim of this study was to evaluate the current situation of pediatric endoscopic surgery(PES)in Kyushu area. One thousand three hundreds ninety-eight patients who underwent PES(1,142 laparoscopic surgery and 256 thoracoscopic surgery)were reviewed using a questionnaire and the results were presented at 36th Kyushu Pediatric Surgery Study Meeting. In Kyushu area, the first laparoscopic surgery was performed in 1992 and the first thoracoscopic surgery in 1993 . There has been a gradual increase in the number of both endoscopic operations every year. Thirty-one patients who had laparoscopic surgery required a conversion to laparotomy., and 3 patients with thoracoscopic surgery required a conversion to standard thoracotomy. Thirty-one patients with laparoscopic surgery and six patients with thoracoscopic surgery had complications. There was no mortality associated with either surgical procedures. It is necessary to perform each basic manipulation completely and to acquire advanced technique.
