At this point, it is impossible to predict with any accuracy the trajectory the coronavirus pandemic. However, if the pandemic spreads, we may witness the emergence of a world different from the one we know. Of course, no one knows what kind of world this will be. There is no denying the possibility that it will be like the plague in fourteenth century Europe, forcing a change in the old order (ancien régime). Such changes will continue even after the epidemic is over. The patterns of infectious diseases are defined by the nature of society, and an epidemic of an infectious disease can sometimes be a precursor to social change. In this sense, infectious diseases pandemics are social in nature. However, there is hope. It depends on our own mindset. Unscientific attitudes do not make things better in any age. That's one lesson that history teaches us.
