Recent advance of antibiotics seem to produce a significant influence on causative microorganisms of chronic sinusitis.

This investigation was undertaken to clarify the change in the distribution pattern of causative organisms in the maxillary sinus mainly in patients with chronic infantile sinusitis in comparison withthe previous reports.

The materials were taken by puncture through the lateral wall of the inferior nasal meatus. The results were as follows.

 1) Gram-negative bacteria ( 71.7 %) was over-whelmingly positive ones (16.7 %) .

 2) H. Influenzae represented the greater part (51.8%) of gram-negative bacteria and P. Aeruginosa was also detected, though in a small percentage (6.7%).

 3) The detection rate of anaerobic was 8.3% for infants and 36.8% for adults.

 4) It revealed that gram-positive bacteria have been decreasing in number, while gram-negative organisms have been increasing in number.
