  • Look Inside

During a period of eight years from 1975 to 1982, a total number of 1,216 cases of otolaryngic surgerieswas performed under various type of general anesthesia.

We analysed these cases using a microcomputer (NEC, PC-9801) concerning the following factors such as sex, age, annual numbers of cases, cases of emergency operation, operation time, anesthetic time, fluids given, anesthetic method, muscle relaxants and complications.

By this statistical study, it was concluded that neuroleptic anesthesia and enflurane anesthesia were most frequently employed as general anesthesia for ENT surgeries, because these permit us to use intraoperative electric instruments and administer local anesthetic with adrenaline.
