We reviewed 21 cases in which Plastipore® prostheses were used for ossicular reconstruction. In all cases, a piece of cartilage was inserted between the prosthesis and the tympanic membrane graft to prevent prosthesis extrusion. Five cases in which the preoperative bone conduction level was more than 31dB were excluded from analysis.

In 12 out of 14 PORPs (86%), the air conduction level was improved to within 30dB and the air-bone gap within 15dB. In two TORPs (100%), the improvement was similar in both aspects. These results were better than those obtained previously with incus interposition technique.
