  • Look Inside

For treatment of incurable vasomotor rhinitis, a new refrigeration system using liquid nitrogen was manufactured and used. The instrument consists of a handhold cryospray with a slender probe (diameter 2.5 mm) and is designed for destruction of the postsynaptic nerve fibers of the sphenoplatine ganglion.

After anesthetized with 4% xylocaine solution, the probe is placed in the area of sphenopalatine foramen which situates the posterior end of the middle turbinate. Nerve destruction is done by spraying liquid nitrogen gas to the area for 5~8 seconds.

Seventy-seven out of 102 cases have been treated with better results and almost no complications.

This original method is applied to outpatients and is evaluated as a superior remedy for vasomotor rhinitis.
