  • Look Inside

There are many cases of Bell's palsy, uni-and beilateral, that occur with repeated and recurrent attacks. The etiology of this disease is quite thoroughly discussed by Devriese in 1969 but, not to the point of complete satisfaction.

Recently the authors experienced 8 cases of unilateral facial palsy, in which 4 cases were treated by decompression operation.

In these cases there dehiscence in the bony canal in their horizontal course. The facial nerve in this area showed an enlargement as herniation.

In view of these facts, the authors believe, the repeated attacks of palsy is caused by disturbance of blood circulation of the herniated portion of the nerve.
