  • Look Inside

By employing pendular rotation test, PRT, evaluation was made on pathologic habituation (PH).

 1) PH was positive in 15 cases of the 152 cases (9.9%) tested. In 80% of cases with positive PH, there were central nervous system involvements. Among 58 cases of patients with vestibular disturbances of central origin, 10 cases (17.2%) showed a positive PH.

 2) A positive PH was seen in cases affected with brainstem circulatory disturbance, brain tumor, head injury, drug allergy or in certain cases of Ménière's disease.

 3) The possible origin of PH was assumed to be central from clinical examples, its resemblance to the mechanisms of habituation and other qualitative findings in PRT.

 4) The Ménière's disease that evoked PH appeared to be the product of both, central and peripheral origin.
