Basing upon the Pavlov's law of conditional reflex and by utilizing the eye winking reflex, a study is made to find a means by which the sense of smell might be recorded objectively. The stimulation evoking the sense of smell was regarded as a conditional and that for the light as non-conditional.

The winking-movements of the eye-lid were recorded by means of ENG apparatus.

For elicitation of non-conditional reflex the instantaneous light supply was sought from the stroboscope. For conditional reflex of the sense of smell the source of irritant was increased by 50%.

A very little difference was noted in the results of the objective and subjective test in the sense of smell; the test on the threshold value of these two methods were both satisfactory.
