口蓋扁桃に対する60CO-遠隔照射経験

THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC HYPERTROPHIC TONSILLITIS BY MEANS OF 60CO IRRADIATION

　Ⅰ．緒言

　扁桃疾患に対する放射線療法は，1911年にMe-nzelがX線照射により扁桃肥大の著明なる縮小を認めたのを嚆矢とし，その後，Regaud，Nogier，Steuart，和田^1）らが同様の発表を行なつたが，Witherbeeは1921，24，25年と数度にわたり詳細なる発表を行ない世人の注目を得るに至つた。本邦においても和田に続き富田^2）ら，数氏の報告がある。放射線療法の発達は上記X線深部照射の他に，体腔管によるX線照射も用いられ1941年に岡^3）がこれによる扁桃照射の報告をした。また，α線としてradon seedもこれらに並行して用いられ，すでに1921年にScal^4）が報告したが，本邦では1956年に須永^5）を経て1957年に戸塚^6）の詳細な報告がある。

　著者らは1958年以来γ線を主とする⁶⁰Co-遠隔照射装置による扁桃照射を行なつているが，先に同僚の岡ら^7）が報告をしたのに加えてその後症例を重ねると共に，扁桃摘除術をした別集団のアンケートも得られたので，ここに対比して述べる。また，少数例ながら扁桃に対する⁶⁰COの病理組織学的影響も検討したので報告する。

　Two hundred sixteen children, aged less than 15, in whom tonsillectomy was considered as necessary, were treated by means of Co⁶⁰ irradiation instead of surgery, since 1962. The results of this procedure appeared to be no different from those who underwent surgery, a conclusion reached by question and answers put to the parents of the individuals, tissue study of tonsils before and after the procedure and, also, by such a study comparing the tonsil-stumps left by either procedure. No irradiation hazzard has been shown so-far in the 6 years of this type of treatment.
