 A functional test of autonomic nerves as far as latter influencing the nasal mucous membrane was conducted on 42 patients who were operated upon for chronic sinusitis. The test was begun on the 3rd postoperative day by subcutaneous administration of adrenalin, atropin and pilocarpin correspondingly each on succeeding days. Autonomic nervous system ANS instability was shown in 71.4% of cases. The results thus obtained were classified in accordance to the method advanced by Uyeda. Majority of cases belonged to type Ⅲ instability in which there was the least mucous membrane changes. ANS stability changed on different days. The authors conclude that most of nasal disturbances are caused by this change in the ANS stability and in the treatment this fact should he borne foremost in the thought.
