In order to obviate mechanical injuries and other deformation that might be forced upon a specimen intended for microscopic exami-nation during the process of decalcification of the cochlea, the inner ear is treated with a fixating irragation prior to the process in which the temporal bone is fixed in paraffin. In this way the vascular and cellular stru-ctures of the organ of corti would be fairly well preserved. Enough time is alloted so that the paraffin might penetrate the speci-men thoroughly and at which time the spe-cimen is subjected to a low temperature to cause hardening of the paraffin.
