Motosugi reports a case of traumatic meningitis of operative origin. The patient, a girl aged 16, developed symptoms of menin-gitis following an operation on the ethmoids during which procedure the lamina cribrosa was accidently broken through. By use of a large amount of antibiotics the patient recovered from meningitis within 80 days since its onset. A review of literature revealed 92 cases of meningitis reported to date; the mortality rate of cases prior to 1948 is 80 % but, after which it has dropped to 30 %. Regardless of the origin with which this disease may be established gene-ral mortality rate remains to be about the same. In operative origin the disease is most likely established within 3 days after the injury.
