Taniguchi makes observations on changes that may be evoked in the permeability of capillary walls by application of cold stimuli. The material of this study is afforded by examination of 20 patient who appeared tosuffering from disturbances of inner ear fun-ctions with symptoms of vertigo, deafness or tinnitus aurium. The results are as fo-llow:

(1) Permeability changes are recognized in 9 patients : in 5 they are considered to be in a state of enhancement while, in the remai-ning 4 they appeared to be retarded.

(2) In these 9 patients it is shown that, with application of cold stimuli to those whoare considered to be normal in permeability, the procedure caused an enhancement of the process but, to those who are already affe-cted in this respect, it resulted in a retarda-tion.

(3) No relation is established between cha-nge the permeability of the capillary walls and other conditions present such as nystag-mus, the state of blood pressure or other signs that may be evoked by cold stimulation.
