頸動脈結紮の注意に就て

　はしがき

　吾が領域に於ては，鼻腔，副鼻腔，咽頭の出血，術後性出血，手術時出血防止，或は悪性腫瘍の出血防止及び組織の栄養遮断の目的の下に，外頸動脈或は総頸動脈結果が屡々行われる。外頸動脈結紮は割合心配の少いものとされているが，総頸動脈結紮は寧ろ偶発症が恐れられ過ぎている程である。私は従来結紮に際しての諸家の注意に，自己の経験から多少追加補遺したいと思う。

　Iwata warns that, in case that carotid artery ligation becomes a necessity, a special precaution that may prevent undue disturbances to the autonomic nerves should be taken. To effect this the carotid artery should be denuted by careful dissection of its network of autonomic nerve structures before ligation is placed.
