YAMADA and KIKUCHI study various forms of nasal mucous membrane changes that are manifested in chronic sinusitis with a view of seeking a possible relation that might exist between such changes and what is called individual susceptibility, particularly that of allergy. Considering them as forming disease entities they classify these changes into 4 different types namely, Chronic Catar-rhal (Type Ⅰ ), Mixed (Type Ⅱ), Infiltrated (Type Ⅲ) and Fibrotic (Type Ⅳ).

A close inquiry covering 60 family histories is made of the patients that suffered chronic sinusitis. it is found that among other mem-bers of the family there are persons affected with diseases such as asthma, urticaria and eczema.

Suffers of Type Ⅰ affection seem to be most closely related to such histories. However, no direct connection is revealed between this type and forms of allergic manifestations.
