NAKATA evaluates for treatment of Bell's palsy the effect of stellate ganglion block. Taking into consideration the fact that majority of Bell's palsy do recover spontaneously the author believes that, in 8 cases reported here, the ganglion block was instrumental inaccelerating mitigation of the disease. In one case, however, this procedure was ineffective and decompression operation of the facial nerve had to be resorted to. He aiso states that, in cases that accomplished a complete recovery within a short period of time, they were ones in whom the ganglion block was performed in the early stage of palsy. Chances of recovery or improvement of the palsy are largest if such blocking procedure be pursued within a week after the onset of the illness.
