GOTO reports two cases of nystagmus which appeared to be non-vestibular in origin but congenital and the motion of which was continuous and pendulum-like. The excursion of the eye movements in one case was large an the other moderate but the plane in both were horizontal. The rate in one case who had 4 other siblings of the family similarly affected was as much as 100 times per minute. Familial tendency toward the affection was, thusly, recognized. Both cases were slightly hyperopic in sight. Fundus examination of one case in Particular showed pappilary atrophy with outstanding nonmedulated nerve fiber; constant wobbling of the head in an attempt to read a printed object is believed to be somewhat of a compensatory manifestation.
