Goto maintains that Congenital Latent Otitis is a term that would be more appropriate than either of heretofore known ones, "Fremdkorperotitis or Latente Saulingesotitis" for designation of the condition which is an inflammatory-like process found in the middle ear cavity of the newborn and young infants. That this form of otitis is physiological manifestation was shown by examinations of mastoid processes of newly born pigs. Instead of regarding congenital latent otitis as a type of infantile otitis media, the latter should be considered as an infection superimposed upon the state, congenital otitis media. This condition, clinically, is characterized by rarety of complications arising therefrom but, it is noted for the protracted course with which the disease takes and the number of repeated attacks of which the patient may suffer.
