OSAWA AND NAKAMURA made observations on, since 1947 to 1950, 21 patients afflicted with pharyngeal syphilis at the secondary stage. He divided the lesions into the following 6 clinical types: (1 Erythemato-us.(2) Verrucoid.(3) Edematous and infiltrative.(4) Ulcerative.(5) Tumorous.(6) Catarrhal.

Among the 21 patients 5 were given treatments with massive dose of penicillin-6,000,000 units-supplemented by either 15g. of salvarsan or 2.5g of marphasol and 2g of bismuth. Such treatments proved to be remarkably effective by early healings of lesions as well as establishment of negative Wa-serman reaction when they were instituted early in the disease. It was also found thae Herxheimer reactions were rarely encountered under such a re-gime.
