INO AND LIAKAWA makes studies of caloric tests with attention to following points: The relation of nystagmus to , (1) conditions in which an irrigation is administered; (2) the position in which the head is maintained; (3) the time interval upon which the irrigation is repeated and; (4) the position of the eye in which it is held.

From this observation it is found the most satisfactory means by which the test be mede is by havihg the patient resting on his back with the head flexed at about 60 degrees, which is rnaintaned by use of a low pillow as support, and the eye on the test side fixed at a paint 15 degrees away from the center. The water previously warmed to 30 degrees C. is introduced, into the ear 20 cc. at a time; interval between successive introductions being set 10 minutes apart. The duration of nystagmus for. a normal person by this test is obtained as lasting approximaly 100 seconds.
