TOMITA AND TAKAHASHI say that no reaction whatever of inflammatory nature was evoked when the tonsils of a normal full-grown rabbit was painted witha swab of fluid medium which held in suspension aculttire of hemolytic streptococci. But tonsillitis was established when such animals were exposed to cold in a cold room where the temperature was kept constantly at 25 to 30 degrees centigrade below zero.

The same method of innoculation was carried out then with traumatization of the tonsils. The degree of infection was now greatest in those animals which were previouly exposed to cord anteceding the innoculation:those whic. hwere exposed during traumatizing procedure followed next in order:while, those which were exposed after the procedure were the slightest affected. In view of these facts, the authors maintain that, cold is cledrly and strongly a contributory factor in the onset of tonsillitis and serve as well a medium by which to aggravate the general situation.
