Naito reports that, for treatment of otitis media, particularly its chronic counterpart, his experience in the use of "panilutin ", a drug of histamine base, has been quite favorable which is shown with results as follows: Among 10 patients who were treated, with 14 ears, the number that was cured were 6 with 10 ears or 71.4 per cent ; those in whom the results proved indefinite numbered 3 patients and with 3 ears or 21.4 per cent. There were some, who had been previously subjected to sulfadrug therapy without appreciable dimunition of aural dis-charges, who, when placed under the present form of treatment, showed a marked response and final cure. The author believes that, the mechanism of this therapy, which appears to be effective in curing chronic ear affections, in majority of cases, is very likely due to active. leucocytic phagocytosis with the number of leucocytes largely increased by the action of histamine on hematopoietic tissues and the general building up of bodily resistance against invasive organisms by token of that same hista-minic action.
