Fujita and Inaba report a case of a patient, a man 57 years of age, with esophageal varix which caused the patient to believe a foriegn body had lodged in his esophagus on the left side of the neck. These symptoms having lasted for a period on one month a consultation was finally sought for, for fear of it being a cancer. Esophagascopic examination revealed a mass, situated approxi-mately 22 cm as measured from the margin of incisor teeth, which appeared dark and rather soft to touch. It also presented a weak pulsation which was faintly visible and blanched easily under slight pressure of the instrument. A biopsy specimen was obtained from the mass with con-siderable amount of hemorrhage of dark venous blood. Microscopic examination of the specimen revealed proliferation of epithelial cells, inter-cellular edema, cell infiltration and hypertrophy of venous wall.
