Toyoshima finds favorable results in testing the effectiveness of parenteral injection of sodium bicarbonate solution for prevention of motion sickness, as it has been advocated by Hasegawa, on 21 students of the Kagoshima Marine Products School. He employed in this test 20 cc of 2 per cent "jusonin" injected into both common carotids of each subject. No effect was seen when 40 cc of the same agent was given intravenously but, when it was follow-ed by another 40 cc the treatment was effective in preventing motion sickness. In most cases 50 cc of 5 per cent of sodium bicarbonate solution proved effective by intravenous route but the author believes that a stronger solution in a larger amounts may be more dependable. But under any circumstances a hundred per cent effectivity in prevention of motion sickness by this method could not be expected.
