  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Studies on thalamic aphasia are reviewed. Three cases with autopsy (Molnár, 1959; Davous, 1984; Bogousslavsky, 1986) and cases with CT confirmation suggested that a paramedian lesion of the left thalamus and midbrain-especially the left darsomedial nucleus-causes aphasia. Further studies are expected to confirm the hypothesis. The so-called aphasia due to such a lesion almost always was accompanied with consciousness disturbance Recent studies were inconsistent to the hypothesis that a lesion of the left pulvinar or the left ventrolateral nucleus causes aphasia.
