Abstract

Biochemical study in postmortem brains with Alzheimer-type dementia (ATD) was briefly re-viewed.

Such factors as age, drug treatment, circadian rhythms, agonal state and postmortem delaycould influence biochemical markers in postmor-tem brains. Therefore, ATD and control groups should be carefully matched.

The cholinergic deficit is the most widely accepted abnormality in ATD brain. However, alterations of neurotransmitter contents in other systems have been also reported. Therefore, we examined neuropathologically diagnosed ATD bains with short postmortem delay.
