  • Look Inside

Opioid peptides in the body can be groupedinto 3 categories. The first group consists of peptides derived from proACTH/β-LPH (proopiomelanocortin) and β-endorphin represents this group. The second group contains peptides such as Met-enkephalin, Leu-enkephalin, Met-enkephalin-Arg6-Phe7 and Met-enkephalin-Arg6-Gly7-Leu8, all of which are derived from proenkephalin A. The third group comprises α- and β-neoendorphin and dynorphin. These peptides have Leu-enkephalin structure at the N-terminus and are derived from the common precursor, proenkephalin B (or prodynorphin).
